SUMMARY
The position is responsible for handling a wide range of legal matters. Reporting to a Senior Vice President, you will provide counsel to corporate management on issues concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges relating to the company's operations and the insurance industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Draft, edit and review contracts and agreements involving policies, purchases, sales, licenses, insurance or other company legal issues.
-Provide legal support related to product development, implementation and maintenance of products and related services.
-Provide counsel on company policies, compliance with state, local and federal laws, on all aspects of insurance law and corporate compliance.
-Analyze proposed and existing legislation affecting the company and advising business units accordingly.
-Perform legal research related to business initiatives guarding against legal risks involving the company.
-Retain and direct outside counsel as needed.
-Respond to inquiries from senior management providing legal guidance on various issues.
-Write and administer complex vendor and client contracts.
-Develop and recommend company policy and position on legal issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-10+ years as a practicing attorney with a demonstrated knowledge of legal skills within the insurance and/or financial services industry.
-J.D. and admission to at least one state bar.
-Solid business acumen. Ability to collaborate with others and build and maintain solid working relationships.
-Strong background in contract drafting, editing, reviewing and negotiating.
-Strong analytical, organizational and drafting skills.
-Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to people at all levels of the organization.
-Capable of working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

Preferred but not required:
-Background in Human Resources and Government Relations
